What the FireWire Surfboard site says about the Sci-Fi:
‘The Sci-Fi is a mash up of classic curves and modern rocker served with a Futuristic twist of fluid dynamic principles likely found in the design archives of Bruce Wayne. Expect seemingly unnatural acceleration, instantaneous response and an all around level performance that can only be described as Electric. The Sci-Fi is a high-performance all-rounder with impressive range (1-8ft ) with usability for intermediate to advanced surfers. 5-fin Option.
(Linear Flex Technology) White Deckskin – LFT incorporates Firewire’s SPRINGER HD, a 0.75″ (18 mm) wide aerospace composite that runs down the centerline of the board, representing the next generation in our SPRINGER technology. The SPRINGER HD runs the entire length of the board and plays a pivotal role in optimizing flex from nose to tail.’
What people are saying about it:
“Hope they have some demos available. The sci phi looks like a big time winner for FW.” – User J_D_J on SurferMag.com
“Just watched Stu Kennedy go off at Snapper on that Sci Phi. Seems really lively and fast in what looks like somewhat junky point surf. Wonder how that would translate to West Coast beachbreaks…” – User Chubbwubb on SurferMag.com
“It had a FW sticker on it but had the cabron strip on the top? I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Damn, I just loved his surfing on that board and it was in daily driver sized waves.” – User Silentbutdeadly on SurferMag.com
“I predict that by this time next year the Slater Designs Sci-Fi will be the biggest selling surfboard model worldwide. It’s probable that it will also be voted Surfboard Of The Year, or whatever accolades are available for pretty pieces of foam.” – J. P. Currie of The Inertia
“This is going to be one of the favorite boards, for sure.” – Sunrise Surf Shop
“I couldn’t believe how much speed the board generated. Paddle power was great and the board just drove thru both steeper and flat sections with ease. It felt like the bat tail was pivotal and loose yet it also held thru the turns with heaps of control. All in all my conclusion was that Stu Kennedy is a freak but the board is an exciting new model and I’d recommend it to any competent surfer looking for something fresh.” – Tim Hanrahan of Coastal Watch

It is a top board for speed, durability and handles all types of waves. The LFT is a better balance of weight and performance than either regular PU or regular EPS. There are plenty of Sci-Fis in the lineup at good wave spots because they are user-friendly and trusted on good waves.
