What the manufacturer says about Da Sting Single Fin:
‘Da Sting is my recreation of a board invented by Ben Aipa in Hawaii in the early 70’s. It was ridden by all the hot young Hawaiian surfers, including Larry Bertleman, Dane Kealoha, and Buttons. I rode a lot of these stingers in the mid-70’s and had great competitive success in Stubbies, Bells and Coke / 2SM Surfabout events. If you love the feel of a Retro surfboard, this is a great option. It looks impressive and is great fun to ride.’
What people are saying about it:
“You can see this shape is very wide up front and there’s a ton foam here. It has a big, thick, wide nose and the thickness runs all the way to the rail. So, this part of the board is all about paddling into a wave and this thing has an enormous amount of paddle power. [00:01:00] But then at the back third of the board you see that this has been cut away and pulled in to this nice little swallow tail. So, while the front is all about getting you into a wave, the back is all about being able to release out of turns and to be able to maneuver the board.
Now I’ve said this before and it hasn’t changed: I suck at surfing single fins. For some reason though, this single fin and I gelled a little bit better than normal. Now mind you, this board is huge – I mean it’s big for me. So much so that you can almost surf it as a groveler style surfboard in tiny, weak waves. [00:01:32] When I was surfing this board it wasn’t very big and it wasn’t out of control. I don’t know how I would have gone trying to surf this board at a Pipeline or a Sunset but the single fin actually was pretty fun in combination with this little pulled in tail at the back here.” – Benny on Compare Surfboards
