What the Gato Heroi website says about the Space Roach:
‘Transitional shortboard featuring rounded disk plan shape and rounded rails displaced bottom and full thickness release rial for carving beach break. Roach is a single fin with side options for experimentation.’
What people are saying about it:
“The space roach is a relatively conventional board in comparison to most from Gato Heroi, but it still maintains a Gato aesthetic and performance. Built for guys transitioning from a shortboard into the single fin feel, this board has a subtle roll under the chest allowing for ease of paddling and nice trim when toward the front. The double concave in the back 1/4 of the board gives drive when the surfer is coming off the bottom or out of turns. This is an easy surfing board great for a variety of conditions and a great model for that transitioning surfer. 2-tone yellow bottom and green rail lap.” – Wild Things Gallery
“The Space Roach is fairly different from other Gato’s where you really rely on positioning on the wave to generate speed, with their traditionally rolled bottoms. The roach, on the other hand, gets that single fin feel from high-lining etc with the subtle roll through the front, but it is actually really squirty off the tail with the double concave. We still keep the volume down in the rails like most Gato’s so you can really bury it in turns, stops it feeling to corky, and holds in nicer in hollow sections. It has plenty of width so you just don’t need all that volume and it still paddles well. It also has this rad little sweet spot toward the front where you can shuffle up and almost cheater 5 and it accelerates.” – Sea Sick Surf Shop
