Not everyone can take on Nazaré. Its monstrous waves are definitely not for the faint of heart. Obviously, Mike Stewart is not like everyone.
After two years, the legendary surfer and nine-time World Champion came back to Praia do Norte to take on its mighty waves and paddled in without jet ski support. And because of Tropical Storm Leslie, the swells were especially humongous, reaching 20 to 40 feet!
“This session took me two or three times longer to paddle out than the previous Nazaré session I had there,” Stewart said. “It was also discouraging to get pushed back after making progress, and so I almost gave up a couple of times to try from farther north up the beach.”
Watch the 55-year-old Hawaiian bodyboarder score a big one in Portugal’s famous shore break.
