Maya Gabeira Comeback Ride May Set New World Record

After almost dying in 2013 from a horrific wipeout, Maya Gabeira goes back to Nazare to take on another behemoth wave. Only this time, her ride could possibly be the biggest wave ever ridden by a woman. From the looks of it, Gabeira may have caught a whopping 80-foot wave but officials from WSL will still have to verify this information. Regardless, the 30-year-old Brazilian big wave surfer is just delighted to have gone back after her accident.

“It was an incredible sensation,” she said in an interview. “I could not complete the wave that I caught in November and suffered a tough wipeout. So, this time I made several adjustments, changed the board and challenged myself to complete this giant wave.”
