Shawn Dollar is known for being a 2x Guinness Book of World record surfer for paddling into monster waves. He’s a consistent performer at Mavericks and he sure had a fair share of horrific wipeouts. It was at Mavericks Invitational two years ago when he experienced this horrific wipeout, which although earned him a nomination at the 2014 Billabong XXL Awards, also caused a shift in his perspective.
“That experience, and seeing how fragile life is, encourages me to get involved,” says Shawn. “There is something we can do to help others.” Shawn now supports SurfAid, a non-profit organization that provides disaster relief solutions as well as health support for women and children through SurfAid Cup events, which pro surfers like Shawn, Nat Young, Joel Tudor and Rob Machado join.
