Tyler Wright wins her fourth Womens’ CT event for the season. With her recent win at the Swatch Womens’ Pro at Trestles, she has taken a big leap of more than 10,000 points lead in the world ranking for the Women’s Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour, ahead of Courtney Conlogue, the ESPN body issue representative for surfing, who sits at number two spot.
The six-time world champion, Stephanie Gilmore surfed a close heat, against Tyler Wright in the final. Wright has set the pace with her 8.50 ride and had a pair of solid 6 point rides to stay in the lead. While Gilmore started slow with mediocre scores below 5.0, she tried to answered back with her 6.0 ride with just under 7 minutes left in the heat.
With a minute and a half left in the heat, Wright paddled into a solid ride to put more pressure onto Steph. Gilmore, who needed an 8.87 went off on the next wave and scored a high 9.13 with about a minute left in the heat. It would have been enough but Wright’s last ride earned an 8.63 which secured her win with a 2.0 margin.
