Two surfers were struck by lightning during a surf lesson in Bali, Indonesia. Both were reported to have “died on the spot” according to authorities.
A witness told media that the two were about to wrap up their session at Canggu Beach when they got hit by a bolt of lightning, knocking them off their boards. Locals hurriedly pulled them out of the water and administered first aid. The two were taken to Canggu Medika Hospital but could not be revived.
According to the Bali Post: “The condition of the victim’s chest is blue and possibly died on the way to the hospital. While the instructor experienced blue on the left leg thigh.”
The tourist was identified to be 34-year-old, Belgian-born footballer Denis Dasoul. He played professionally in Belgium, Italy, and Austria before moving to Australia when he retired in 2011. Dasoul was reportedly in Bali on holidays with his girlfriend.
Our deepest condolences to Denis Dasoul’s family and friends.
