New Smyrna Beach, Florida – Three shark attacks occurred in the same area, Sunday September 18. At around 10:40 am a 43-year-old man from Longwood, Florida has been bitten on the lower leg area or around the ankle while surfing.
Several minutes later, a 36-year-old man from Miami was also bitten on both hands while surfing. There were significant lacerations suffered by both victims but they were expected to survive, according to Senior Capt. Tamra Marris of the Safety Ocean Rescue agency of Volusia County Beach.
But it was not over, at about 1 p.m., a 16 year old local was also bitten while surfing.
Fortunately, he only suffered minor laceration and did not require to be transported to the hospital.
New Smyrna Beach has been known as a the “Shark Bite Capital of the World” and has been notorious for several incidents of shark attacks.
