The Rip Curl Pro has been running at Bells Beach in Victoria for more than 30 years, and will continue running, at least until 2022. This was the news that John Eren, Minister for Tourism and Major Events, announced to surfers yesterday at Bells.
The Bells Beach competition is one of the most iconic events on the WCT, attracting tens of thousands each year to Victoria to watch the world’s top surfers compete to ring the famous bell. This year alone saw about 30,000 in attendance.
The new five-year agreement ensures that visitors will continue to crowd Bells Beach at Easter, providing ample business for establishments and boosting the economy in the area.
WSL’s senior vice president Dave Prodan acknowledged the importance of the Rip Curl Pro to the Tour and what a pleasure it was to bring the world’s best surfers each year to a location as iconic as Bells Beach.
