The best tube riders of the world have gathered together at Padang Padang on Sunday, July 31 for the 2016 Rip Curl Cup opening ceremony. And as tradition has it, the ceremony is done the Balinese way.
A Balinese priest was present to bless the event and join every surfer and event crew in prayer for safe competition and excellent surf. The matchups for the opening round were also announced. The day ended at sunset with traditional Balinese Kecak Dance performance on the beach.
The 2016 Rip Curl Cup is now on “High Alert” anticipating a kick of on Tuesday August 2 at Padang Padang. If given the green light, the event will stream live at Rip Curl.
A massive SSW swell is expected to make its way toward Bali and this has triggered the switch of the event status to Yellow. The athletes are now on Standby status awaiting the big announcement.
