Tuesday, July 19, 2016, Australian Pro Surfer Owen Wright made an announcement that he is officially withdrawing from the remainder of the World Surf League’s 2016 Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour to give time to focus entirely on his rehabilitation for the head injury he previously suffered last December 2015 before the Pipeline Masters event.
The big goofyfoot guy was contending for the WSL Title by the end of 2015, but with the unfortunate turn of events, he had to pull out of the Billabong Pipe Masters event after a set of waves has hammered him in his warm up session on December 10, 2015. He was able to make it to the shore without any assistance but he looked disoriented while walking up the beach. Wright began complaining of headaches when he got home, for which reason he was brought to the hospital where it has been discovered that he has suffered severe head trauma.
Wright has been under medical observation for a while in Hawaii before he was able to travel home to Australia to continue his treatment.
Before the 2016 season has started, Wright has announced that he would withdraw from the opening half of the year. He has been able to make significant progress in his rehabilitation but in this recent announcement, it shows he has decided to continue working on his recovery for the remainder of the year before he will return to the competition.
