Pros and rookies battled it out for five days at Kirra Point. There were massive upsets and huge surprises from winners as well as runners ups, and Lakey Peterson was one to make sure she wowed the judges and so she bagged the trophy for the first WSL CT event for 2018.
In her Instagram post, Peterson says she was having so much fun and enjoying herself. “Catch me in the Semi finals sometime soon.” True to her words, she reached the semis and battled it out with Malia Manuel. She was asked after the semis how she’d feel about a yellow Jeep Leaders’ jersey and her answer was, “I haven’t been in that color yet, and I’d really love to be.”
In the Finals, Peterson went up against Australian surfer, Keely Andrew. Both women showed brilliance, strength, confidence, and determination. Peterson opened with a score of 8.00 followed with a 7.67, which put Andrew in a situation where she needed to catch up; and although she did, she ended up as number 2 with scores 3.50 and 2.17 for wave 1 and 2 respectively.
