It seems we won’t be seeing two former world champs surf Bells Beach, as Kelly Slater has confirmed that he won’t be competing at Rip Curl Pro, as well.
After missing out on Snapper Rocks, the King released a statement saying he’s officially pulling out of the second stop of the 2018 Championship Tour.
“I think it’s best that I properly rehabilitate the injury and choose to surf wholeheartedly,” Slater said. “I’ll be back when the time is right.”
Slater broke his foot during a free surf, forcing him to skip on the remainder of last year’s tour. Unfortunately, the injury has yet to heal completely even after undergoing surgeries.
Taking Slater’s spot will be South African Michael February who will officially be part of the 2018 CT as replacement for Mick Fanning who will be wrapping up his competitive career at Bells Beach.
