HaydenShapes The Shred Sled King Review

What the HaydenShapes site says about The Shred Sled King:

‘The Shred Sled King is a step up to the Hypto Krypto model. It is the type of step up board that maintains plenty of volume and area under the chest for great paddle and stability, yet it has a forward style of outline designed to give maximum hold in larger waves.

With this model being ridden smaller than the traditional step up board, it fits into the pocket and is more comfortable to turn in the tighter areas of the wave. This makes the transition from your Hypto Krypto much easier to handle on those days you finally get to ride a step up.

The Shred Sled King is typically ridden 2″ longer than your Hypto Krypto or slightly longer the bigger the waves. Hayden prefers to design this model as a Five fin and a PLUS or STANDARD PLUS lamination upgrade for customers looking to bring added strength and stiffness to their boards for upcoming surf trips or the winter season.’

What people are saying about it:

I’d recommend a shred sled king as an all rounder for good waves up to 6-8ft, great board. I looked at the rusty slayer but for some reason didn’t go that way, I knew the shred sled was a cracker and the SSK is a bit of a tweak of that design so hard to go wrong as long as you get the size right for your weight, power and ability. My cousin got a slayer and seems to go good for him but he’s smaller and I haven’t seen him ride it in any great waves as yet, spring is rubbish on the northern rivers surf-wise best time of year to travel away from here for surf or other adventures”. – Mundies on SwellNet.com

I’ve had a number of Haydenshapes over the last few years and my purged my quiver in early fall to be able to pay for this board as well as another shred sled–which I talked about in the past on SI. Basically, I saw this shape last year on the Hayden site and called ’em about it. Said it wasn’t an official model back then but they would send the file over to Pure Glass in CA if I wanted it shaped up. Didn’t have the funds after I gambled on another design that was a bit unique–however, made the commitment to purchase this one this fall. Just picked it up last night but wish it came in last week!!!! Designed for head+ waves, and can’t wait to get it into it into the water. Thinking it’s going to replace my step-up!!!” – live4truth on SwellInfo.com

“That thing looks awesome. BTW, that shred sled you sold me is unreal. by far my favorite board. bought a hypto too”. – krl0919 on SwellInfo.com

Great board, excellent all rounder. Best as a quad, double overhead I add a nubster in the rear fin box for a bit of extra hold. Just spent 2 months surfing a new Shred Sled King – step up version, doesn’t have the wing/flier – in reasonably solid surf in South America, such a good board once its head high or more… The SSK is worth a comparison review…” – Mundies on CompareSurfboards’s Disqus
