Gary McNeill Captain Kirk Review

What the Gary McNeill Surfboards site says about the Captain Kirk:

‘A hybrid design in collaboration with Dave Rasta. It basically brings together two tails into one; it has the smoothless of a Squash Tail and the cut of a Swallow Tail. Very smooth ride and feel with extra bite. It’ll beam you up to Cosmic Bliss.’

What people are saying about it:

“The Captain Kirk is a high performance fish designed with Gary McNeil and Dave Rastovich to take his free surfing to the next level. This is a super fast fish that packs plenty of natural speed and paddle power through it’s wider and more forgiving outline. The Gary McNeil Captain Kirk is a high performance small to medium wave shredder. With a developed pulled in tail for a more responsive ride from your traditional fish, this board lets you get critical and concentrate on high performance surfing.” – Boardcave

“Gary McNeil does all customs so when the board arrived it wasn’t exactly what I imagined, but I knew to trust the master as I have another board from him, so I just started using it without a second thought. I have the thruster version and have been blown away at how amazing it is in the average beachbreak conditions I got it for. It is really fast and turns with precision in critical situations. At certain points in the ride it feels like the board kicks into a higher gear and I have been flying over sections that I’d usually end the wave on. One thing to note is the board doesn’t seem to like tiny fat waves – I really have to nurse it through turns and be measured with my pumping to eek out a ride – still an enjoyable experience though. I have not reached the limit of how big it can handle I’ve had it out in waves well overhead and was totally in control. A couple of times I have been able to just turn the board onto a wave while I’m paddling back out and take off without even a paddle just push the nose down the wave and away you go. This board really filled the hole I had in my quiver and exceeded my expectations in the beachbreaks I ride it in.” – user David on Boardcave

“The Gary McNeill Concepts Captain Kirk is a modern performance fish on steroids! Designed by Gary McNeil and Dave Rastovich, the Captain Kirk by Gary McNeill Concepts is Rasta’s free surfing wonder board. With a wider, more forgiving outline and foam in all the right places, this board paddles like a dream but never feels bulky. If you’re looking for a high performance fish design with emphasis on performance, the Gary McNeill Concepts Captain Kirk is your cosmic craft of choice.” – Benny’s Boardroom
