Firewire Almond Butter Review

What the Firewire website says about the Almond Butter:

‘Designed by pro surfer and ocean advocate Rob Machado, the Almond Butter surfboard just says FUN all over it. Rob has always been known as one to carve his own path in the surf world which his designs express. The board is versatile enough to surf in small waves on up to over head hollow conditions. The classic short board design with Rob’s own special sauce makes this a fun board for any surfer. With a 5-fin setup the possibilities are endless.

We are also offering a special collaborative version of Rob’s board using a Sig Zane design.

What people are saying about it:

“From my experience it feels like you can lock your back foot against the pad (if you are using one) and drive from there. No need to really move your feet around the board much.” – Boardshop.co.uk on YouTube

“I’ve been riding the almond in anything from chunky 4 foot to 2 foot hollow beaches This my fave board It’s that good. I use large fins. My boards 5,4. Great rails. TT is fassssttt tech. Loose but loves a good swooshing cuttie as well. Get one yea won’t be dissapointed.” – user andyb73 on Firewire Surfboards forum

“Relatively flat rockered and fuller foiled, the Almond Butter will guarantee you early entry into each wave you catch. Generating and holding speed is a breeze – ensuring you connect sections and maneuvers with heaps of glide and flow. The subtle single concave bottom keep this board fast and lively underfoot. A double concave through the back third of the board helps you keep this wider and fuller shape on rail. The relatively full rail up front make the Almond Butter very forgiving to surf. This rail slims down to a sharper edge in the tail to ensure connection with the wave face.” – zaksurfboards.com

“I just picked up a 6’6″ Almond Butter at a local surf shop in San Diego last week. Took it to Trestles once and Blacks once. Really enjoying it so far, feels definitely much different then any previous Firewire’s I have ridden, specifically the tail feels much more stable yet very maneuverable. Paddles great.” – user Chinho on Firewire Surfboards forum

“This is my new favourite board! I bought the 5’10 on my performance volume and surfed it once to realise it was a mistake. I battled to catch waves, but once on, it went well. Even had a little barrel during that session… Luckily I had some savings and went and bought the 6’0 the next week. The best move I could have done!! With the volume under your chest, the board catches waves easily and glides in. The nice pulled in squash tail has nice sharp rails and this allows one to put weight on your back and it holds very nicely on turns or in the barrel. I wouldn’t go for your performance volume, but one up.” – user nicknaks on Firewire Surfboards forum
