Channel Islands Semi Pro Review

What the Channel Islands site says about the Semi Pro:

‘In 2010 Kelly designed the Semi-Pro on the computer from start to finish by taking his favorite aspects of the Tangent and Proton. Going on to ride the SP in 3 WCT wins and a 10th world title, his design proved itself as the ultimate all-around shortboard. The Semi-Pro should be ridden shorter than usual: Kelly likes to ride them with his normal dims but his same height (5’9″). This shorter rail allows for his tight signature arcs in the pocket. Deep single concave make the board work best on rail, and ample rocker allows for deep gouging carves. With the wide point 2 inches behind center and increased nose-width, this board still handles mushy days. The Semi- Pro changed the way professional surfers ride their boards. As of 2012 this board is CUSTOM ONLY.’

What people are saying about it:

“The Semi Pro is not your all arounder. It’s not the board you’re gonna throw in the car and head to the beach without even bothering to check TheSurfersView forecast. It isn’t a groveler, and it isn’t a board for the sloppier choppy days. What it is however, is a mega performer in quality surf when the waves are chest high +. It’s also a great step up board for when the epic days roll through, or an excellent travel board for surf trips to firing destinations.”
– Adam Clemente on TheSurfersView.com

“Designed by Kelly Slater, built by Channel Islands, the Semi Pro is Kelly’s world-obliterating all-condition contest board. It’s got a bit more volume than the old matchstick 6’0’s of the past and you get to ride it about four inches shorter than your usual board. The deep single concave and plenty of rocker allow for tight turns in the pocket whilst the extra volume will get you through the flat sections.”

“really good board for waves that barrel! turns on a dime.” – ventura.craigslist.org
