Channel Islands Girabbit Review

What the Channel Island site says about the Girabbit:

‘Jordy looks to his Girabbit design when the waves have some push. Best used as all-around shortboard for above average surf. Single concave throughout means the Girabbit works best when on rail. A fairly aggressive tail curve allows for tight radius turns. Ride this board your same height to 3″ longer than you are tall. Jordy is 6’3″ 190 and rides his Girabbit 6’3″ x 19 1/4 x 2 5/8 @ 33.1L’

What people are saying about it:

“Featuring medium to full rails with a pulled in nose and tail, the Girabbit is Channel Islands go-to board for vertical-pocket surfing and powerful, carving surfing in above average surf and is their best choice for an all-round short board in these conditions.” – SurfingLife.com.au

“This new board from CI is a big hit and quickly becoming a favorite for pros and bros alike. Based on the Wide Tail Rookie, but with a few tweaks per Jordy’s request, it has proven to be a keeper. Check out the full rails and extra tail rocker to help keep things aligned on those days with proper pumping surf.” – CleanLineSurf.com

“Jordy Smith uses the Girabbit when the waves are good, if you like powerful rail surfing in decent waves this board is designed for you.” – MagicSeaweed.com

“The board has full rails and a wide tail. There is a good amount of tail lift and nose rocker. This board allows you to put a lot of power into your turns and generate a lot of speed. The wider tail is more forgiving in this board and also makes executing turns easier. The tail allows more control when turning on white wash sections and also makes coming out of reverses and airs better. The full rails are also quite forgiving making the most of your power throughout your turns. It also makes linking turns on this board really good. The tail rocker on this board is excellent for release off the top, extremely responsive and controlled board. Throwing the tail off the top is not an issue and with the wider tail, off the top turns are more controlled. The healthy amount of nose rocker makes turns in the pocket precise and flowing. This board goes in anything from 1-2ft to 6 ft plus. This board likes hollow waves with open faces however is a good all rounder. This board also planes over flat sections surprisingly well due to the wider outline and full rails. The best short board I have ridden so far.“ – Bob D on BoardThought.com

“Developed as Jordy Smith’s go to board for quality, performance waves, the Girabbit was developed in conjunction with Al Merrick and Channel Islands Surfboards. It will allow the competent surfers to get the most out of tight pockets, hollow barrels and fast, performance point breaks.” – CompareSurfboards.com
