Bing Lotus Review

What the Bing Surfboards site says about the Lotus:

‘Originally a cooperative design between Bing and Dick Brewer, this late 60s classic single-fin shortboard and first generation mini-gun has been re-designed by Matt Calvani and possesses the glide of a fish while maintaining tighter single-fin turning characteristics. The OT Lotus has a wide, flat nose with a displacement hull entry for glide and smooth easy wave entry, and a thick pulled-in pintail with double concave for loose rail-to-rail turns and increased speed turns in small to medium-sized waves.’

What people are saying about it:

A cooperative design between Bing and Dick Brewer, this late 60s classic single-fin shortboard and first generation mini-gun is built for powerful surf and tube-riding. Its original wide nose plus narrow tail outline gives you ease of entry into waves while maintaining control in more powerful conditions. With a few refinements to its bottom and rails, this board can be ridden either as a shorter gun or as a mid-range down-the-line board and is ideal for the barrel.” – Surf Science

I have the 6’2. From the much missed The Shop Next Door in Manly. It was so beautiful I wanted to put it on the wall. But I am so glad I decided to ride it and I never regretted. It can go into any conditions with so much confidence. Just this morning it gave me an unforgettable long left at Curly. I swapped the usual fin for a more flex fin of same size so it can move better. This is the board I feel comfortable taking with me no matter where I go.

    • Frank that sounds magical!

I also miss The Shop Next Door. I ride a 6 4 Jye Byrne Six Channel and it is so smooth to ride a single fin occasionally. Hanging a board on the wall is functional art if you ride it as well!
