World Class Bali Waves At Risk

The world class waves of Nikkos, a righthand reef off Bali’s east coast is at risk of losing its famous mechanical barrels that last up to 10 seconds long.

The Kempinski hotel group has built a seawall right through the middle of the world famous Nikkos reef break. If unstopped, the company will extend the seawall 137 meters into the ocean and at five meters width and five meters height.

The local Balinese surfing community is strongly opposing this and believes it destroys the natural beauty of the ocean and has a negative environmental impact.
