August 14, 2016, Team Peru wins the Team Gold Medal at the 2016 INS ISA World Surfing Games held at Playa Jacó, Costa Rica. The team has earned the coveted Fernando Aguerre World Team Trophy for the second time in 3 years.

Team Peru has previously won the same Gold Medal in 2014 ISA World Surfing Games held in Peru. Team Portugal comes next in rankings bagging the Silver Medal while Team USA grabbed the Bronze Medal; team France comes next with the Copper Medal.

After eight days of world class surfing, history has been made as this event has become the first international surfing event held after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially included surfing for 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Tia Blanco (USA) and Leandro Usuna (ARG) win individual gold medals for this year’s event. This will be Blanco’s second consecutive Gold medal after repeating the same solid performance she has exhibited in 2015 ISA World Surfing Games in Nicaragua. Usuna’s win this year will be his second Gold medal in the last 3 years repeating the same win he has earlier earned in 2014.
