Increased Shark sightings caused The Western Australia School Surfing Titles to be called off.Over a hundred young surfers from 28 of the Western Australia schools were set to compete for the title at Trigg Beach last Friday Morning. Organizers had to make a decisive call to cancel the competition as reported by Perth Now, a local media outlet.

Shark sightings in the area had been an issue that has recently raised concern in the local community. Photographer Rick Knoppert has been able to capture an intense moment when four unsuspecting surfers encountered a shark at Waterman’s beach, which is just near the location of the WA School Surfing Titles.

The Department of Fisheries have revealed that since the early days of June this year, there have already been 61 shark sightings reported. According to recent report, baited drum lines were set in the area, by the Department of Fisheries. The local beaches have been closed due to this.

The Western Australia School Surfing Titles event has been postponed for a few weeks in the hope that the shark sightings decrease. Unfortunately, the eager young surfers have to wait for a new schedule.
