Playa Revolcadero, in the phenomenal Men’s Qualifying Series (QS) Vans Surf Open Acapulco QS1000 2016, Rafael Teixeira (BRA) emerges as the champion. The conditions were wonderful with waves ranging between four and five feet which gave way for breakthrough performances and off the charts numbers.
The day started off with Quarterfinal heats that were filled with talent. Teixeira has shown a perfect performance. He has not lost any single heat on his way to victory. He was able to take down notable opponents such as Jhony Corzo (MEX) in the quarterfinals and Dylan Southworth (MEX) in the Semifinals. Teixeira saved his best performance for last and took away the win. He was able to add up 1,000 points for his qualification campaign as a result.
Teixeira battled out with Diego Mignot (FRA) in the final and put him in a combination situation, which meant the French surfer needed two new scores to take the lead. The final horn sounded off after Teixeira posted an 8.83 in the final minute.
Mignot had an incredible performance at the event finishing with a hard-earned and impressive runner-up. He went through a tight round with the Costa Rican Noe Mar McGonagle in the Semifinals and was able to move forward to the final but could not keep up with Teixeira’s brilliant surfing.V
