Malia Manuel withdraws from the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro coming into the Quarterfinals where she is set to face Tyler Wright. Manuel got injured during her Round Four battle against Johanne Defay in what seemed like a rematch of the previous face-off the two surfers had back in the Australian Open of Surfing.

Malia Manuel vs. Johanne Defay in Round Four Heat Two:

According to WSL, Manuel may have torn her Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) in the knee in Round Four. It appears Manuel had gone over the rocks in the shallow inside section during the heat, but she continued surfing and won. Her unexpected exit came as a surprise to many of her fans and supporters, especially now that she has built quite a good momentum and a stellar performance throughout the event.

Because of Manuel’s withdrawal, Tyler Wright will now get a quick ticket straight to the Semifinals. There is no official information yet whether Manuel will be able to get back to compete in the upcoming Championship Tour events.
