Kanoa Igarashi Beats Kelly Slater at Billabong Pipe Masters

In the Semifinals Heat 2 between Kanoa Igarashi and Kelly Slater, Igarashi managed to advance past Slater into the Finals by a 0.50 margin.

In the first few minutes of the heat, Igarashi got the ball rolling, and took off a wave, got a quick barrel finished off with a foam climb for a solid 6.67. Slater answered back less than 5 minutes later with a longer barrel ride, earning an 8.10. Igarashi had another 6.0 backup score from a barrel ride with a little less than 15 minutes left in the heat. About a minute later, Slater took off on a barrel ride and got a 6.90 to back his score up.

With less than a minute left in the heat, Kanoa needed an 8.33 to take the lead back from Kelly. He paddled into a deep barrel and topped it with a floater towards the end of the ride, just finishing within the dying seconds of the heat and earned an 8.83, which was enough to win the heat by a very slim margin.
