Brazilian goofy-foot pro surfer Italo Ferreira suffered an injury after a landing went wrong when he did an aerial maneuver during a free surf at Gold Coast.
Ferreira who was known for his explosive surfing style and awesome airs finished in the Quarterfinals of the recent Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast. He was a consistent performer and finished last year’s Championship Tour (CT) in 15th place and earned the prestigious WSL Rookie of the Year award back in 2015. Italo currently sits at equal fifth in the Jeep Leaderboard after his solid finish in the first stop of the CT.

With the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro coming up in a few days, it is still uncertain whether or not he will be able to compete. Ferreira finished in third place last year in the said event and in the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach. Both events will run within the next three weeks.
In the event that Italo is unable to compete for the next CT events, Nat Young is first in line to be injury replacement finishing just a little outside of qualification on last year’s CT. Stu Kennedy and Sebastian Zietz were able to surf the entire 2016 season as a result of Owen Wright‘s and Bede Durbidge’s injuries. Both Stu and Sebastian requalified this year through that route.
BlinkSurf wishes Italo Ferreira a speedy recovery.
