Aussie Hopefuls Get Ready for 2016 World Junior Championships

With just one junior event that remains for 2016 in the World Surf League calendar of events, a large percentage of qualifiers have already been decided for the 2016 World Junior Championships, which will be held in Kiama, NSW. Every World Surf League region has its own Junior Qualifying Series where the top four men and top two women are given the opportunity to compete in the world Junior Championship to take a shot at winning the World Junior Title.

The World Junior Championship event is set to run in Kiama on the coast of New South Wales, Australia in January 2017. Australia’s Ethan Ewing and Macy Callaghan dominated the Men’s and Women’s Junior Qualifying Series in Australasia and have shown breakthrough performances throughout the year.

Ewing, aged 18 took four of the eight events in the Australasia Junior Qualifying Series for 2016. With his consistent performance, he sits comfortably in the fourth place with a strong chance to qualify for the 2017 Championship Tour.

On the other hand Macy Callaghan won five of the eight events for 2016 Junior Qualifying Series. She is currently in 17th position in the QS.

Both Surfers prepare for battle in their home soil where their familiarity with the break gives them a solid advantage. Will these two Aussies dominate the World Junior Championship? The answer awaits to unfold when the event runs on January 4-13, 2017.
