The International Olympic Committee is leaning towards running the Surfing event in the 2020 olympics in the sea and not in a wave pool.

With the recent WSL acquisition of Kelly’s wave pool, many have anticipated that olympic competition may be geared towards the use of artificial waves to regulate wave quality.

But recent meetings of the IOC reveals they are looking at natural beach for surfing given Japan already has a good number of strong surfing spots.

Nothing has been made final and more details are to be released upon finalization of the inclusion of Surfing in the 2020 Olympics, which is yet to be signed off by IOC members in their next major session.
