WSL has teamed up with Rip Curl for the 2016 Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang at the Indonesian pipeline in the beautiful Bukit Peninsula of Bali. The event has been running for 13 years now and it is the first time that WSL will take part of it.
According to Rip Curl Southeast Asia Marketing Manager James Hendy, partnering with WSL as a sanctioning partner was a no-brainer for this longest running professional surfing contest in Indonesia.
The current defending Rip Curl Cup champion is Local surfer Garut Widiarta.
This year, the Rip Curl Cup will feature the most exclusive field in event history. There will only be 16 surfers invited to the event. Eight of the world’s elite tube-riders and eight of Indonesia’s finest. The official list will be released on July 18, 2016.
The organizers have adjusted the event format for this year. After the two opening rounds, all heats will be man-on-man. This will ensure a fairer playing field where it is all about who can come out of the most absurd barrels.
The 2016 Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang live webcast will be simultaneously accessible at live.ripcurl.com andwww.worldsurfleague.com. Both sites will show real-time contest status and video updates.
